What Is a WPI-8 Certificate?

When you need one
Re-roofs, major roof repairs, additions and new construction in the TWIA designated catastrophe area.
How it works
Inspections are requested before work starts and done at set stages by TDI or an appointed engineer. After the final inspection passes, TDI issues the WPI-8.
If a past roof has no certificate
An engineer may be able to evaluate completed work, which can involve opening areas of the roof. It's far easier to plan inspections up front.
Ask your roofer
Before signing, confirm the contractor will request the inspections and build to the approved specifications. Learn more about roof replacement.
How the inspection works
A Texas Department of Insurance appointed inspector or qualified engineer inspects the work at required stages, usually including decking attachment and final installation. After it passes, TDI issues the WPI-8, which is kept with your property records and needed for TWIA coverage.

Usually the roofing contractor schedules it as part of the job. Confirm this in your contract.
What if my roof was done without a WPI-8?
